Greek mythology hold a wealth of words with meanings and allusions related to their stories and characters and these words can enrich your essay. Some of these words are so widely used, you would not be forgiven for not knowing them.
Take the July 17, 2010 Saturday New straits Times for example, for this story:
“Mad Max and the narcissism epidemic.”

The word Narcissism originates from the character named Narcissus (which is also the name of a flower) who loves himself so much, he admires his reflection everyday in the water (no mirrors back then). So besotted was he in his own reflection that he fell in love with the handsome man who is actually an image of himself, and he died trying to embrace that image!
Mad Max of course refers to Mel Gibson, who acted in Mad Max and he is narcissistic in the sense that he left his wife to link up with a beautiful young woman and when she wanted out, he insults her and scolds her, although she had done nothing wrong at all, but because she could help in his own self-magnification.
Greek mythology is full of characters who are often linked to their virtue or vice: Hercules, Midas, Zeus…etc. and many words have connection with them.
